PUSH FOR 25 YEARS - RELEASES

Announcing: Paulie’s Push for 25 Years

Paulie has pushed an airline beverage cart more than 750 miles along routes symbolizing the flight paths of the four aircraft hijacked on September 11, 2001. In 2021 he pushed from Boston-Logan to Ground Zero in Manhattan. In 2022 he pushed from Washington-Dulles to the Pentagon for American Flight 77. In 2023 he pushed from Newark-Liberty to the National Flight 93 Memorial in Stoystown/Shanksville. And in 2024 he pushed from the Boston Public Garden 9/11 Contemplative Garden to Ground Zero for American 11.

Next August, the final Push to Ground Zero begins - and this next one is everyone’s Push. Paulie hopes to meet as many of you, and hear as many of your stories, as possible on this final journey. When the cart reaches Ground Zero by September 11, 2026 it will have been pushed over 1,000 miles in honor of the flight crews - the ‘first, first responders’ that day. But many of those final miles will see it pushed by the communities that we pass through, and members of the September 11 community who join us along the route.

In many communities we’ll have an extra beverage cart (up to four) on hand so that community members can join him in the Push. We are coordinating with community leaders in advance, and will release more information as it becomes available.

PUSH 4 - RELEASE INFO

Paulie’s Push 4: American 11

On Sunday, August 18, Paulie began pushing 225 miles from Boston’s Public Garden to Ground Zero in Manhattan. He’s honoring the flight crews of American Flight 11, the first plane to be hijacked on September 11, including Captain John Ogonowski, First Officer Thomas McGuinness, and flight attendants Barbara Arestegui, Jeffrey Collman, Sara Low, Karen Martin, Kathleen Nicosia, Betty Ong, Jean Roger, Dianne Snyder, and Amy Sweeney. He concluded the journey on September 11, 2024 at Ground Zero in Manhattan.

SEPTEMBER 10 - COMMUNITY DAY

On September 10 Paulie and members of his team attended the 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s ‘Community Day’. This was an event that is closed to the general public, but open to the 9/11 community including flight crews and others. During his visit Paulie met with one of the museum’s archive specialists to discuss the Push. He was invited to return to discuss further, and plans to do so in the near future.

SEPTEMBER 11 - THE FINAL MILES & THE MEMORIAL

Paulie completed the journey on September 11, when he walked the final two miles to Ground Zero. [Note the change from 1 mile stated previously.]

  • Starting Point: 2nd Avenue & Houston St., Manhattan

  • Starting Time: 1:00 p.m.

Paulie was be joined by his family and additional members of his team along the way; they met him at the corner of West Broadway and Chambers around 1 p.m., and continued walking to the Memorial. View the route map here.

Paulie and his team entered the Memorial at 2:00 p.m, prior to the 3 p.m. entry of the general public, and visited the site and viewed the names of his friends and colleagues, as well as other 9/11 heroes he’s come to know along the way via the four Push journeys already completed.

Please note that, as this was a somber occasion, Paulie’s hope was to keep the focus on that day on the flight crews and their families - the ‘first, first responders’ of 9/11.

9/11 MEMORIAL & MUSEUM

Please note that the 9/11 Memorial & Museum requires journalists receive credentials to cover activities. The deadline has passed for obtaining media credentials from the Memorial & Museum for any coverage inside the museum; contact their press team re: coverage of their planned events on 9/11. You can read more about that, as well as their guidelines, here. There may be limitations on the number of credentials provided.

PAST EVENTS

April 20, 2024: New England Free Jacks / Major League Rugby

On April 20, 2024 Paulie was the honored guest of Major League Rugby’s New England Free Jacks. He presented the game ball in their match against the Seattle Seawolves, and a video showing his pushes to each of the three 9/11 memorials was cast on the Jumbotron during halftime. At the end of the game, Paulie was invited to join the team in the locker room at Veterans’ Memorial Stadium in Quincy, Mass.

March 17, 2024: South Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade

On March 17, 2024 Paulie’s Push marched in the South Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Suffolk County is one of only two places in the United States where St. Patrick’s Day is a true legal holiday, and they take the parade seriously - being invited to participate is quite an honor. Paulie, members of his team, and his family marched in the parade, Paulie leading the way pushing the beverage cart. The RV, decked out for the holiday, was a part of the processional as well.

Summer/Fall 2023: The Push to Shanksville

Between August 14 and September 11, 2023 Paulie pushed nearly 300 miles from Newark Liberty International Airport to the Flight 93 National Memorial in Stoystown, PA. He honored the flight crews of 9/11, including Captain Jason Dahl, First Officer LeRoy Homer Jr., and flight attendants Lorraine Bay, Sandra Bradshaw, Wanda Green, CeeCee Lyles, and Deborah Welsh.

Saturday, August 12 2023: Boston Departure

On Saturday, August 12 Paulie was joined by his best friends since seventh grade, Stephen Lynch and Dennis Morrissey, at their 45th high school reunion in Quincy, Mass. Stevie and Dennis have accompanied Paulie on his previous Push to Ground Zero in 2021 and the Push to the Pentagon in 2022. At 10 p.m. the Quincy Police Department and Quincy Fire Department met Paulie, the crew, and the Paulie’s Push RV at the The Adams Inn in Quincy, escorting them up Hancock Street to the Star Market (130 Granite St, Quincy, MA 02169), where supporters gathered to see them off as they departed for Newark. Click here to see photos and video from the event.

Sunday, August 13 2023: Memorial Visit

Paulie and his crew were joined by fellow flight attendant Deborah Calimano at the Essex County Eagle Rock 9/11 Memorial at 10 a.m., as well as Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo. They toured the site, and Mr. DiVincenzo shared the story behind the memorial. Paulie later shared the story of the 9/11 memorial and the flight crew memorial on his Facebook page - click here to see the post. Click here to see photos from the event. Location: Eagle Rock Ave &, Prospect Ave, West Orange, NJ 07052.

Monday, August 14 2023: Newark-Liberty Sendoff

At 10 a.m. on August 14 Paulie took part in a ceremony at the Newark-Liberty International Airport Administration Building, Building One, before being escorted along the first miles of the route through the airport. Paulie addressed well-wishers (click here to see video) and spent time pushing his cart through the airport, including on a runway closed for the purpose. A special moment was when a United Jet pulled up and stopped next to Paulie, and the pilots and passengers waved to him - visit our Google Drive folder for photos and video of that, and of the rest of the day. Address: 1 Conrad Rd, Newark, NJ 07114.

Route Progress Dates & Times TBD

The journey from EWR to Shanksville was approximately 300 miles. Paulie typically walked 10-15 miles a day, with an average of 12. Paulie’s followers were able to view his location in real time via the Live Map at http://resport.io/push3.

Sunday, September 10: Memorial Chapel

Members of Team Paulie visited the Flight 93 Memorial Chapel on Sunday, September 10, returning with Paulie on Monday, September 11. Paulie toured the grounds, which include a memorial to those who perished on September 11, 2001, including a special memorial to the flight crew and passengers of Flight 93.

Monday, September 11: Flight 93 National Memorial

Paulie arrived at the Flight 93 National Memorial in Stoystown at 12 noon, pushing the final distance into the area near the visitor center to the memorial. Plans for this day were based on the conditions of our permit with the National Park Service, which required that Paulie and the team enter from an alternate entrance (Skyline Drive West) and stage in the First Amendment area of the park. Paulie was greeted by well-wishers, including some who’d come to take part in earlier ceremonies at the Memorial and others who’d followed his progress along the route and used the Live Tracker to join him at various points during the 300 miles.

Post-9/11

Paulie will returned to the Boston area on 9/12. He is available to do interviews in/around Boston, as well as Zoom/phone/etc. interviews, about the Push.
